What is an image converter?
An image converter changes a picture from one file format to another, for example from HEIC to JPG or from PNG to WebP. The picture itself stays the same, but the way it is stored changes. That affects the file size, whether transparency is kept, and which apps and websites can open it.
People usually need to convert images when a website rejects their upload, when a photo from an iPhone will not open on Windows, or when they want smaller images for a faster website.
Convert image to JPG, PNG or WebP
- Image to JPG: the best choice for photos and for upload forms that only accept JPG or JPEG.
- Image to PNG: keeps every pixel and transparent backgrounds – ideal for logos, screenshots and editing.
- Image to WebP: much smaller files with similar quality, recommended for websites and blogs.
- Image to AVIF: the smallest files of all, supported by modern browsers.
JFIF to JPG and JPEG to JPG
JFIF and JPEG are the same format as JPG with a different file extension. Some websites still reject .jfif or .jpeg files, so add them here and convert to JPG to get a standard .jpg file that every form accepts.
Bulk image converter
Add as many images as you need, choose one output format and convert them all in one go. Download each file separately or press “Download All” to get a single ZIP file – handy for converting a whole folder of iPhone photos.
Convert images without losing quality
Choose PNG for lossless output, or keep the quality slider at 90% or higher for JPG and WebP – at these settings the difference is not visible. Converting to a lossy format can never add detail that the original did not have, so always start from the best original you have.
How this converter handles your files
Decoding and encoding happen inside your web browser using built-in image APIs and WebAssembly libraries. Your images are not sent to our server. Large images may take a few seconds on older phones because the work is done by your own device.
When converting a transparent image (PNG, WebP or AVIF) to JPG or BMP, transparent areas are filled with white because those formats cannot store transparency.
Supported formats
- JPG / JPEG
- The most widely supported photo format. Small files, lossy compression, no transparency.
- PNG
- Lossless format with transparency. Best for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges.
- WebP
- Modern web format from Google. Usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality, supports transparency.
- AVIF
- Newer format with very strong compression. Supported by current browsers, but not by every app yet.
- HEIC / HEIF
- Default photo format on iPhones and iPads. Efficient, but many websites and Windows apps cannot open it.
- GIF
- Old format limited to 256 colors. Still used for simple graphics and animations.
- BMP
- Uncompressed bitmap format. Large files; mainly used by older Windows software.
- TIFF
- High-quality format used in printing, scanning and archiving.
Examples
- Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG before uploading them to a job application form.
- Turn a PNG screenshot into WebP to reduce its size for a blog post.
- Convert a TIFF scan into PNG so it can be opened on any device.
